3 Reasons You Should Start Discipling Your Children at Home

Reason #1 – God Commands It

In Deuteronomy 6, God tells us to love Him with all our heart, soul, and strength, and to teach His commands diligently to our children. This means talking about His Word at home, in the car, at bedtime, and throughout our day.

Family discipleship isn’t an optional “extra credit” for Christian parents—it’s part of the job description.

Reason #2 – You Are the Most Influential Person in Your Child’s Life

Your kids spend more time with you than with anyone else—about 3,000 hours a year. Every one of those hours is an opportunity to shape their hearts for Christ. If we don’t intentionally disciple our children, someone else will—friends, media, or culture.

Reason #3 – Faith Is Caught, Not Just Taught

Children learn far more by observing than by listening. If we tell them God matters but never pray, read Scripture, or talk about Him at home, our actions will speak louder than our words.

This is why worship in the home has to start with us as parents. Out of the overflow of our own relationship with God, we can authentically lead our kids.

What Happens When You Start

When you make family worship a normal part of life:

  • Your home is filled with peace, joy, and unity.

  • Your children know who to run to in hard times.

  • You strengthen your marriage and family bonds.

Practical Next Steps

  • Start with one Bible verse a day.

  • Pray together before leaving the house.

Share one way you saw God at work each evening.
